The Republicans have lost the third special election in the House of Representatives. All three seats had been held by Republicans. They were in places that the Democrats should not have had a pray in winning. And yet they won all three. Here's the story about it in the Post. They won J. Dennis Hastert old seat, a seat in Louisiana and now the one in Mississippi. These are supposed to be strongholds for the Republicans. Bush won these areas easily.
Not a very good sign for the GOP in the fall. It means they will be playing defense. Defending areas that they shouldn't have too. It means less time, effort and money in those few seats that are considered toss ups. Also resources will probably not be spent in those seats that the Democrats won last time but tended to go Republican. Heather Schuler's seat in North Carolina comes to mind. The Republicans would have targeted him for sure but now they might spend their resources defending seats they already have.
The Democrats also have a lot more money then the Republicans. This of course may change as the general election gets closer. But it means, at least for now, the Democrats have a huge advantage over the Republicans.
And I'll add about time too.

The main thing here is that voters in these districts, at least, have finally understood that if they think the country is on the wrong track--and some polls show 82 percent of Americans feel that way--then the only way to change it is to elect Democrats. That's a very, very hopeful development.
