Trip to National Harbor via Alexandria

So Jim and I were trying to think up something to do on Monday. I'd taken the day off. We went out to breakfast at a place near where I live and started thinking of things to do. Jim came up with the idea of going to Alexandria and taking the water taxi that goes to National Harbor to National Harbor.

That's what we did. We just missed the 10:45 taxi. So while waiting for the next one, we walked through the Torpedo Factory and looked at the different artists there.

We ended up on the 12:05 taxi. It was wonderful ride on the water. Here are some pictures.

We had a great time at National Harbor. Walked around and did a little shopping mostly at the Peep Store (yes the Peep Store) and then had a wonderful lunch. Then we walked around a little more and headed back on the 3:15 taxi. A wonderful day indeed.

Gaylord National Resort at National Harbor

This is the first stop that the water taxi makes (we found out about that on our trip back). It is at the very impressive Gaylord National Resort. It is one of three hotels at National Harbor. It is by far the largest one there. The pictures don't exactly do it justice but it gives you an idea of what the place looks like. The views are spectacular.

The Awakening:

The statue consists of five separate aluminum pieces buried in the ground, giving the impression of a distressed giant attempting to free himself from the ground. The left hand and right foot barely protrude, while the bent left leg and knee jut into the air. The 17-foot (5.2 m) high right arm and hand reach farther out of the ground. The bearded face, with the mouth in mid-scream, struggles to emerge from the earth.

It used to be at Hains Point in DC but then the sculpture sold it.

The Peep Store

Yes, there is even a Peep Store at National Harbor. It is one of three in the country. A great place to browse around for sure.
