National Marathon

Saturday was the National Marathon. Here are a couple of pictures I took before I went to my class at my gym. I thought I would try and walk a marathon that day. I came close.

The Cherry Blossoms

One of the best things about spring in DC are the cherry blossoms. They are just spectacular. Here are a few pictures of them that I took during my walk on Saturday.

Close to Peak

The blossoms are not exactly at peak here. But this gives you an idea of how overwhelming they are. It turns out the weather for the rest of this week is not all that nice so Saturday was the best day to get pictures of these beauties.

Down By the Mall

Blossoms Everywhere

The blossoms are not just around the Tidal Basin. They are on the Mall, on Capitol Hill and near Union Station. So there are plenty of places to enjoy this incredible spring wonder.

On the Way Home

I ended up walking 46,151 steps on Saturday. It was a very nice day. And it is always great to see the cherry blossoms. The first picture is of the Supreme Court. The others are right near Union Station.

Just about time for baseball

In honor of the upcoming opening day in Washington which will be this Thursday here are a couple of Peanuts. The forecast is for light rain and a high of 48 which has to be considered a heat wave the way temperatures have been here lately. The last couple of days the high has been below the average low for this time of year. Come on SPRING!!!!!

Off to New York City

Wednesday I went up to New York City on Megabus. I went with a friend that I volunteer with at Food and Friends. We last went up together in September. I'm calling this the spring trip. There was little spring like about the weather. Rain, freezing rain, sleet and snow. But we still went anyway. We had a great time.

As you can tell from the first couple of pictures, it was pretty gloomy in Times Square. It was a little cold but I brought a warm sweater and a hat and gloves so I did fine. Also it never rained or snowed or whatever form of precipitation that came down for very long. In fact, the snow held off to the very end of the trip. And it turned out to rather beautiful. We didn't have to stand out in it all that long while waiting for the bus. I will say it was great to get on a heated bus.

Once again an amazing trip.

Rockefeller Center

After Milk Train we wondered around a bit and ended up over at Rockefeller Center. On the way over it started to sleet. I didn't have my umbrella up at the time and got hit with the sleet. It hit my ears and it hurt. So up went my umbrella.

Around Times Square

There's a huge ToysR US store right in Times Square. It has a ferris wheel right in the store. The last shot is a protest against the bombing in Libya.

La Cage Aux Folles

After a great dinner at John's Pizza, it was off to La Cage Aux Folles. What a great show from start to finish. The opening number is We Are What We Are. The chorus has bunch of beach balls that they throw out into the audience. The audience then tosses them back the chorus throws them back again. Very funny.

On more than one occasion, members of the cast come down into the audience. Christopher Sieber who plays Georges has only been in the show about a week. He was great. Harvey Fierstein was fantastic. Just as the show was great. Very enjoyable indeed!
