National ALS Advocacy Day

I came upon this near the Capital Reflective Pond a few weeks ago. It is a very sobering display how ALS, Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis or more commonly know as Lou Gehrig’s disease, impacts the lives of people.

This is part of a tour that is going around the country as the Stealing Pieces web site describes it:

The ALS Association’s Florida Chapter invites you to experience our Piece By Piece tribute display, which is dedicated to those whose lives have been taken by this dreaded disease. The exhibit features hundreds of mannequins, each shrouded with individual epitaphs, symbolizing a fellow Floridian whose life has been stolen from their loved ones. Its purpose is both to pay tribute and evoke personal reflection on the devastating number of those currently suffering. We hope you will share this powerful experience with us.
