The Hatch is Back
It’s nice to have people that are reliable. That will do what they say they will do. That will show up when they say they will. That will accomplish what they promise in the time frame that they promised. And that’s what happened this past weekend.
The guys showed up around 7:30. We did a walk through of what was going to happen. Then one of the guys headed out to Home Depot to get supplies. I went down to the Bank of America and got some money so they could purchase supplies. I also gave them a key to the house since I was heading out for the walking tour with Mark around 9:15.
When I got home from the tour, they were well on there way to getting things done. When the porches were enclosed I had the hatch on the second floor covered over. My thinking was that this could not be the only way to get up on the roof of the house. That turned out to be wrong. So the idea was to get on the roof and open the hatch and then cut through the ceiling of the porch to recreate the opening for the hatch. There was some debate on how to get up to the roof. It turned out they got up there in a very clever way. They put a ladder up to the roof of the front porch. They then placed a ladder on the porch roof and got up to the main roof from there. The brick colums that hold up the porches were also repaired. They stayed until a little after 6:30.
Sunday was finishing up the trim that had rotted on the back door on the first floor. Also got the hatch all set and did some some paiting. We did a quick walk through around 3 or so and noticed a couple of last things that they needed to fix.
All done around 4pm on Sunday. I now have a hatch to the roof. Now people can get up there without having to have a 40 foot ladder. And the hatch looks great!
