First pet food now toothpaste

This is the headline from Saturday's Post Toothpaste From China Could Be Poisonous. The toothpaste may contain a poisonous chemical used in antifreeze.

What is it with China? It makes me concerned about what else may have been sent into this country that has poison in it.

At least the FDA seems to have done something rather promptly unlike the pet food problem. It does point out the holes that are present in protecting the food supply say from a deliberate attempt to poison food.

And here's China's response:

China has branded a U.S. warning against using its toothpaste as irresponsible, saying low levels of diethylene glycol (DEG) were not harmful.

"So far we have not received any report of death resulting from using the toothpaste. The U.S. handling (of this case) is neither scientific nor responsible," China's General Administration of Quality Supervision, Inspection and Quarantine said in a statement posted on its Web site over the weekend.

Isn't it nice to know that no has died and that low levels of this stuff aren't harmful. But having no levels of this chemical in your system is probably best.
