Kalb Report Scoops and Scandals
Another interesting Kalb Report from this past Monday. It focused on the scandals that presidents have had. But it also emphasized the attempts of presidents to control the press. The love hate relationship that presidents have with the press.
Also a discussion of what reports report has changed over the years. Reporters knew FDR was in a wheelchair but you never show pictures of him in one. Reports knew JFK was fooling around but didn't report that. What was in a politicians private life stayed private unless it had a direct baring on the way that politician performed his job. Of course today nothing is off limits.
Douglas Brinkley said something very important about when presidents get in trouble. They need to tell the truth. The lie is almost always worse than the cover up.
In all a very fun Monday evening.
