There was a choral group practicing while we were there. Really incredible.

National Cathedral Earthquake Damage

There was some real damage done to the National Cathedral from the earthquake that hit Washington on August 23, 2011. Here's a little about what damage was done:

On August 23, 2011, a 5.8 magnitude earthquake struck the East Coast of the United States. It was the largest earthquake to strike the region since 1897, a year before land was purchased for the site of Washington National Cathedral, and was felt by more people than any other earthquake in U.S. history.

Pinnacles twisted, buttress stones cracked and finials fell. With $32 million or more dollars in damage caused by the 2011 earthquake, efforts to repair the damage will take years.
