Star Wars — The Force Awakens

And boy does it ever awaken. No spoilers. I will just say that (to borrow from a headline from a review which all I looked at was the headline) the force is strong with this one.

I was blown away. It sent chills up my spine. It is just great.

Denis and I saw it at AMC at Georgetown. We went to the 11:30 show in 3D. The crowd was not huge but that was because it was shown 13 other times before we saw it.

We got in line very early simple because we really didn't know what to expect. A little before 10:15 they let us into the theater. It was nice not to have stand in line all that time.

Soon enough it started and it was great.

Another Star Wars Trailer — Better Than the Last

Oh my oh my oh my.

This even made the ABC Evening News. It made the Washington Post and the Huffington Post and the LA Times and The New York Times and. I think you get my point

One of the things I noticed right off is that Luke Skywalker talks about his father in the present tense as opposed to the past tense. Wonder what that's all about.

New Star Wars Trailer

I have to say when I watched this I had chills run up and down my spine. I am a huge Star Wars fan. The first three were great and the next well not so much.

When the original one came out I remember it being on the cover of Time magazine. It opened on Wednesday, May 25, 1977 in 32 theaters. Over the next two days it opened in an additional 11 theaters. One of those just happened to be the Edens Theater in Northbrook, Il. Not too far from where I lived.

Two my friend and I went to the first show on that Friday. There were maybe 20 people in the whole theater.

After dinner that night I drove back down to see what the lines were like. They wrapped around the theater. I got out (how I found a parking place I'll never know) just to get a feel for what was going on. There was a 7 show and this probably a little after 6. But the people in line were in line for the next one at 9.

Just amazing. It is still one of my favorite movies.

I think before I left for college I'd seen it like 9 times. Once in DC I saw it several other times as well. I remember going to a late show during the week at the Uptown where it played for an entire year.

Star Wars

I just finished watching Star Wars on HBO. Well actually it was on HBOHD. It was impressive most impressive.

The opening scene has to be one of the most memorable in any movie. I remember seeing it and being just blown away by it. I saw Star Wars many many times over the summer it opened.

May 25 will be the 30th anniversary of Star Wars opening. I remember seeing it the first day it opened and first show no less. I also remember that there was almost no one in the theater. I went back to the theater that night and the line wrapped around and around and around. In fact when I came out to DC to go to George Washington University, it was playing at the Uptown theater. I think it played there a year. Movies just don’t do that any more. Sometimes you’re lucky if a movie plays for a month.

It is amazing to think that in its original limited release it was only in 43 theaters. And the most theaters it ever played in was 1,750. (Today films open in almost twice that number of theaters.) This one movie changed the movie industry. Summers became the time for blockbusters.

No matter how many times I see it; it still gives me chills.
