Rhode Island Station Morphs into Rhode Island Row

I was wondering how long this would take changing the name from Rhode Island Station to something else. It was just going to be too confusing because most people would think you were talking about the Metro stop not the development there. And Rhode Island Row just sounds so much better. Here's the link to their site (the old site isn't even up any more). From the site it says they will be opening summer of 2011. I'm not exactly sure how that will happen. I could see maybe September or October.

I have to say I'm starting to get excited about what the place will finally look like. Also what stores and restaurants will end up being there.

More Construction at Rhode Island Row

It's still a little difficult to figure out exactly where everything is going to go. The first picture is of the building going up right on Rhode Island Avenue. This is a view of the back. The last three pictures are the buildings that are closest to the Giant/Home Depot parking lot. Looks to me like there is going to be more above ground parking beside the parking garage that Metro built. Also there are in the process of adding siding to the outside walls.

This is pretty impressive considering they didn't really start this until the beginning of this year.

Here's the view as you walk to the Metro Station. There in the process of starting work on what seems to be the "center" section of the development. The buildings are on the right now run the length of Rhode Island Avenue. Looks like there will be shops along there.

TD Bank Takes Shape

This is the new TD Bank. It is finally starting to take shape. It's taken a while for the construction to get going. I think it will be a nice addition. It means there will be three banks in a block of each other.

I do have a concern about what the teller lanes will do to traffic. Right now at certain times, say on a Saturday, the lanes in and out of the parking lot for Home Depot and lined with cars. In fact on a couple of occasions, the cars were so backed up people couldn't pull into the ramp going up on to the parking lot. And getting out of the lot isn't all that much easier. I wonder what's going to happen when you have people trying to pull out of the teller lanes. Could make for one big mess.

Rhode Island Station

Rhode Island Station continues to take shape. The first couple of pictures are of the first structure that went up. There now putting in windows in and it looks like they are creating the individual apartments in the building. It is fun to watch it go up.

With the weather finally warming up, the development is really taking off. Workers are there six days a week.

Development Along Rhode Island Avenue

The area right along Rhode Island Avenue is the new focus of the project as you can see by these pictures. This has come a long way in a very short time. If they can keep this up, they may have stores open by September.

Update on Rhode Island Station

It is really starting to come along. With the weather getting warmer and the days getting longer, the building should go even faster. The plan is by fall to have people living there and some stores and restaurants being open. I think it will be a great plus for the neighborhood.

Rhode Island Station

The construction or Rhode Island Station is in full swing now. This is a project to develop the area right by the Metro station there. Up until that last couple of the months, most of the work has been preparing the area for the actual construction. They had to remove a small hill and that took some time.

However, in the last couple of months, the actual building has begun and the project is starting to take shape. You can take a look at what the final product will look like by clicking on the picture below. The goal is to have things ready by the end of this year.

Rhode Island Station, Part II

The Rhode Island Avenue metro parking lot was closed in May of last year. The first structure that was built was the parking garage. It went up very quickly because it was essential concrete slabs. Very much a pre-fab construction.

In the late fall this construction started.






































































This last picture is from the parking lot where the Giant and Home Depot is. It will eventually be a TD Bank. The construction area had been fenced over for several months. Only in the last couple of weeks has there been any work going on.
