Colonials Beat Dayton Chalking up Their 19th Straight Win!

The band playing on to a victory

Stu and I went to see the women Colonials on Sunday at the Smith Center.

It was a great game. The Colonials won 67-56 against Dayton. They improved to 21-2 and 10-0 in the Atlantic Ten.

The opening part of the game was played at a very frenetic by both teams. Which I have to admit lead to some sloppy play on both teams. The Colonials were in charge for most of the game. They lead at the half 31-19.

This from the Post:
Behind a virtuoso performance from forward Jonquel Jones, the Colonials won their 19th in a row for the second-longest streak in school history. They remained the only unbeaten team in the Atlantic 10 after sweeping the conference’s gold-standard program, which has made five consecutive NCAA tournament appearances and won the past two regular season titles.

George Washington (21-2, 10-0) is on the fast track to its first NCAA tournament appearance since 2008 in the third season under Jonathan Tsipis, whose rebuild included luring Jones from Clemson to Foggy Bottom two years ago. The junior from Riverdale Baptist is a major reason the Colonials have matched the 2006-07 team for the best 23-game start in program history and are ranked for the first time since 2008.

They kept that lead for most of the second half but Dayton slowly but surely chipped away at the lead. Dayton got as close as 6 points with less than two minutes to play. but the Colonials settled down and made foul shots and closed out the game.

I'm pretty sure they will NCAA bound in a few weeks.
